A Letter from the Workshop

Dear Friends and Customers,

My name is Duncan, and if you have noticed a quietness from tho Lomas workshop over the last few years, we first want to offer our sincerest apologies. We have missed the connection with our community, and we owe you an explanation for our absence.

Lomas Furniture has always been a family business. Sadly, in 2022, our families were hit by back-to-back tragedies. Rodney’s wife, Emily, (also a main driver of Lomas Furniture) passed away at just 39, and only three months later in early 2023, my own son, Torin, also died following a surgical complication.

The devastation was total. Rodney and I have been close friends for years—our wives were dear friends and our children grew up together—so we stepped away from the workbench to focus on the only thing that mattered at the time; our families.

Today, there is a sense of renewal. Rodney has found a new path in Costa Rica and has recently married. While he sets out on his new life in Central America, we have been working closely to ensure his iconic designs live on here in the UK.

Introducing - EnGrained - a Lomas Design Collection

Today, I lead the workshop in Devon, maintaining the soul of Lomas Design with Rodney’s full blessing from his new home. We’re glad to be back and are proud to announce the launch of Lomas Design.

Every piece of wood carries the story of what it has been through.The rings that mark the years of drought and plenty. The pearlescent ripples of grain so sought after and formed by decades of grace under pressure. Over the years we have come to know a thing or two about the forces that shape us.

Engrained is a collection born from the years in which our two families faced losses that nothing could have prepared us for. It is also a collection born from the belief that good things, made carefully and with love, deserve to continue.

We are proud to introduce Engrained — five pieces that represent the heart of what this workshop has always been. Each one finished with the same unhurried attention you have come to expect.
